SonShine MINISTRIES food pantry
SonShine Ministries Food Pantry became part of the Union Church around the same time that the church addition was built, in 1986. While they used to have clothing and food, it is now focused on the food ministry aspect.
SonShine Ministries Food Pantry exists to feed the hungry, literally. It is open every Wednesday from 9am to 5pm, and serves residents from Quincy, Reading, Montgomery, Alagansee, and Allen. Clients must show proof of all income to comply with The State of Michigan Income Poverty Guidelines. By implementing these guidelines, it enables the ministry to help those who are truly in need of assistance.
In 2016, SonShine Ministries Food Pantry served 630 families, 1, 109 individuals and dispersed 13, 639 pounds of food to those less fortunate in our community.
Food donations are collected from Union Church members, Quincy United Methodist Church, Girl Scouts, Helping Hands 4-H Club, Rebekah Lodge #186, The Quincy Schools annual "Spring Fling", The NIKA Club, Ken Washburn, Mr. & Mrs. Brian Frye, Jennings Elementary 4th grade classes, Women of Faith of Coldwater, The Branch County Association of Realtors, The Quincy After School Girls Program, and California Community Church.
Monetary donations have been generously donated by the NIKA Club, Mr. & Mrs. Gary Newsome, The Union Church Women's Society, Mr. & Mrs. Perry Fosdick, The Rebekah Lodge #186, Branch County Association of Realtors, The Quincy United Methodist Church, and the Annual Food Bank Challenge.
Our mission is generously blessed by all of these wonderful donations and would not be able to continue without them and the people who volunteer their time to staff the pantry.
